The St. Alphonsus Parish Religious Education Program, Creating Christ's Desciples (CCD) provides supplemental religious instruction for children in grades Pre-K through 12. Parents are the primary educator for their children, and our catechists seek to assist parents in that role. Currently, we use the Faith First Legacy Edition by RCL. First Reconciliation and First Eucharist take place in second grade, but arrangements are made for students who have missed these sacraments.
Confirmation takes place in eleventh grade. Classes are held Sunday mornings between Masses from September through May. Please consult the Parish Calendar for specifics.
Parental CCD Covenant Participation in our Creating Christ's Disciples (CCD) Program is an essential but partial fulfillment of the promises made by parents at the Baptism of a child. No religious education program, even in Catholic schools, can substitute for parental example and a consistent Christian atmosphere and practice of prayer in the home.
Your child should come to our program knowing his or her prayers and how to pray. Our program deals with the equally necessary social aspects of Christian formation, which prepare the children for life in the Catholic Christian community, standing before the world in a prophetic attitude of witness and service.
By enrolling your child in St. Alphonsus CCD, you, as parent or guardian, agree to the following:
- 1. I will have this child at his or her place of instruction, ready to learn, promptly at the beginning of each class or other exercise. Knowing that everyone except the Coordinator is donating his or her time and work, I will assit them in every possible way.
- 2. I understand that religious education can be effective only when it is based on a sound Catholic Christian home life. I will see that this child learns to pray and to maintain an awareness of the loving presence of God in his or her life. I understand that teaching this child to use the basic prayer forms of the Catholic Church is a home responsibility, not that of CCD.
- 3. I understand my obligation to participate in the Sunday Eucharist with this child each and every weekend of the year, whether at home or away, whether class is in session or not.
- 4. I realize that CCD is aimed toward preparation of children for a lifetime of witness and service in the Catholic Christian community, not just for reception of the Sacraments; therefore I will see to it that this child is enrolled and active in appropriate parish programs of Christian formation for as long as he or she is in my legal and/or moral custody.
- 5. I pledge to give this child a consistent example of responsible stewardship of the talents and material goods God has given me by generous personal and financial support of our parish community.
